What an engine does—and does not do
Travel is not progression
Keys let the crew drive, boss hand-ins open the next route and Radar markers identify it. More engine is useful only after those checks are complete.
Keep a story reserve
A required boss lure, dependable weapon or empty inventory slot can be more valuable than faster sailing at the moment the next quest starts.
Buy against repeated travel
An engine pays back when the current run repeatedly crosses open water. It does not improve aim, damage, catch pools or boss preparation.
Separate utility from 100%
The first improvement can help during the story; the best tier can wait for achievement cleanup if reaching it would drain the active route budget.
No made-up engine price table
The current data verifies the two engine achievement milestones, not shop costs or speed figures. This guide therefore gives decision rules and explicitly sends live numbers back to the in-game vendor.

Run this check in order whenever the engine vendor starts competing with the next weapon or lure.

Collect the boat keys, complete the local boss hand-in and check the Radar marker. An engine cannot substitute for those progression requirements.

Protect enough coins and inventory space for the lure, weapon, food or carried body required by the next island objective.

Identify the real bottleneck
If combat or a missing quest item is stopping progress, solve that first. Consider the engine when repeated sailing—not the encounter itself—is consuming the run.

Buy a milestone deliberately
The first engine improvement and the best engine tier correspond to separate achievements. Decide whether the purchase is for travel now or completion cleanup later.

Engine decision
Wait until the opening boss hand-in gives access to the boat route. Establish reliable damage before treating speed as the first purchase.
Other priority
Any available dependable starter weapon. Finishing catches and surviving Spider Crab matter before luxury upgrades; the Pistol is listed for Forest Island.
Avoid
Spending every coin on a rod while lacking damage.

Engine decision
Consider the first improvement only after Giant Piranha prep is funded and repeated travel has become the actual delay.
Other priority
Balanced close/mid-range damage. Giant Piranha is easier when missed attacks can be punished quickly.
Avoid
Carrying quest pickups in a full inventory.

Desert
Engine decision
Keep a cash buffer for the Desert lure and sustained-damage plan; an engine does not solve the Pufferfish or Blue Shark fight.
Other priority
Reliable sustained damage. Pufferfish and Blue Shark reward uptime more than a single stylish shot.
Avoid
Confusing the optional grill route with the story route.

Rocks
Engine decision
Protect the Professional Boss Lure and Tuna-to-Albatross chain before spending the route fund on travel comfort.
Other priority
Accurate rifle or sniper setup. Albatross spends time at range and killscore challenges benefit from accuracy.
Avoid
Selling the Tuna body for short-term cash.

Volcano
Engine decision
Finish the best-engine achievement after the late-game primary, food and whale-chain preparation are secure unless travel remains the bottleneck.
Other priority
Fully upgraded primary plus food reserves. The whale chain is longer and punishes low ammunition or recovery.
Avoid
Starting the trigger without room to preserve key bodies.
