Information stored on your device

The site uses browser localStorage for optional preferences and progress trackers:

• htf-theme — light or dark theme preference.
• htf-collector-v1 — creatures marked as collected.
• htf-achievements-v1 — achievements marked as complete.
• htf-beginner-departure — beginner departure checklist progress.
• htf-island-progress — completed island markers on the map.
• htf-analytics-consent-v1 — whether this browser accepted or declined optional analytics.

The preference and progress values stay in your browser and are not sent to our server. You can remove them by clearing site data for this site in your browser.

Optional analytics

Google Analytics is disabled by default. Before you choose Accept analytics, the site does not download the Google tag, send an analytics request or set an Analytics cookie. Declining keeps it off. The tag is also disabled on our pages.dev preview host.

If you accept, Google Analytics may process the page URL, referrer, browser and device details, interactions, and coarse location derived from connection data. It may set first-party cookies such as _ga to distinguish visits. We use these aggregate reports to understand which guides are useful and do not use them for behavioral advertising. Advertising storage, ad user data, ad personalization and Google Signals are disabled in the site configuration.

Your choice is saved in this browser. Use Analytics settings in the footer at any time to change it; withdrawing consent stops the tag from loading on future pages and removes the Analytics cookies known to this site. You can also clear all site data in your browser. Google processes accepted Analytics data under its own privacy policy.

Server and Cloudflare data

Cloudflare may process limited request metadata such as IP address, user agent and security signals to deliver the site, prevent abuse and produce aggregate operational logs. We do not sell personal data.

Embedded media

YouTube content is loaded only after you press play and uses the youtube-nocookie.com domain. Once loaded, the media provider may process connection data under its own policy. Steam links open on Steam's domains.

Contact status

The how-to-fish.org domain is registered for this site. A tested public privacy email inbox has not yet been configured, so please do not send sensitive information to an assumed address. This policy will publish a working privacy contact before representing one as available.
